It is a full size model with large 5x lens and an LED light source. It is of chrome plated brass construction and uses 2 C cell batteries for its power. Rechargeable C cells also work well in the otoscope. Standard size disposable specula work with the otoscope and attach over the nose cone just like Welch Allyn. The otoscope head attaches to the handle via a luer lock mount and can be removed so the handle can be used with an ophthalmoscope. The LED light uses a fiber-optic pathway to bring light into the ear canal. The light is very bright and illuminates the ear canal very well. The main advantage of an LED light is that it is impervious to shock and trauma unlike a halogen bulb which is incandescent and contains a fragile filament.
